I haven't used both either, just FreeMeshX, but I could find some information about the differences. Based on, FreeMeshX has LOD10 (38m) mesh for North and South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Oceania; and LOD9 (76m) mesh for Antarctica, Greenland, and Russia north of 60N. Based on and, FS Global varies between LOD8 (152m) and LOD12 (9.5m). It has better LOD than FreeMeshX for some areas: LOD11 for North America; LOD12 for Hawaii and parts of SW USA; some European mountain areas like the Alps in LOD11), but for the most part it appears to be LOD9 or lower, which is worse than the FreeMeshX LOD10.
Of course it's possible to use both. If you have multiple meshes for the same area available, FSX and P3D prioritise the highest resolution one.
So just what difference can you expect? While the standard scenery in your Flight Simulator world is rendered with elevation points a massive 1. Elive Cd. 2km apart, FS Global ULTIMATE provides new ‚mesh terrain’ with points only 5m (!) to 76m apart – that’s 250 times more detail!
No longer will your favourite areas appear a poor representation of real-life – now mountains soar as they should and valleys plunge. Even coastlines and rolling hills will be more lifelike making every flight a genuine delight. If you own a previous version of FS Global you will love the new looks of ridges in many mountainous areas. They look as sharp as in reality. VFR or IFR – every flight will be a new experience. With the upgraded Europe and Africa available – you’ll want to jump back and fly VFR and discover the beauty of the virtual world in ever changing shapes and contours during hundreds of hours of exploration flights - be it the Alps, High Tatra, Pyrenees, the Kilimanjaro - or some place in your own backyard.
